Airborne Bicycles is known for creating budget conscious Mountain Bike offerings for new riders looking for entry into the sport, or experienced riders looking to expand their quiver without breaking the bank. They accomplish an unbeatable pricepoint and parts group spec. eliminating the middle man and only offering their product through a direct sales model. Their first foray into the 29er market was the Goblin, a bike that has received much praise. The Goblin with a price of $1149.95 is considered quite the bargain, so on the wheels of its success they have released the Guardian as the little brother with a sale tag of $599.95. Read the official press release below for more info and Specs.
The All New for 2012 Guardian 29er
The Airborne Goblin 29er has been the darling of both magazine and website editors. Its been universally agreed that the Goblin is a great performer and storming value for its pricepoint. The only complaint we receive from time to time is the fact that even $1150 is a stretch for folks on a tight budget. Lets be honest; sometimes kids, bills, and (gasp!) other hobbies get in the way. What makes Airborne a different type of bike company is the fact that we participate heavily in social media. We listen to our customers. Because you wanted it, we began work in earnest on a low-budget version of the Goblin. During development, we refused to confuse the term "low-budget" with "cheap". What most people don't realize is that it is harder to build a great sub-$1000 bike than it is to build a great $5000 bike. We pride ourselves on making bikes that we would recommend to friends and relatives to ride. Enter the new Guardian 29er. The Guardian utilizes the same hydroformed 6061 Aluminum frame as the Goblin. It also uses the same Airborne handlebar, stem, and seatpost. The same Small Block 8 tires from Kenda. Even the same Selle San Marco Saddle.
What did we change? The fork is the new RockShox XC28 TK Mg29, complete with Preload Adjustment, Rebound Adjustment, and Turnkey Lock-Out. The drivetrain is a SRAM X5/X4 mix in 3x9 configuration. The cranks are Truvative E400's. And lastly we changed the wheelset out to a more-than-capable Weinmann Disc-Bull double-walled and eyeletted wheelset.
All of that adds up to a great 29" hardtail at an amazing price of $599. Call us crazy to sell it so cheap. But one of our internal motto's is "we want to get more butts in saddles", because more riders out there on the trail is a good thing.
We're producing a limited number of these so we can't guarantee all sizes will stay in inventory long. If you don't have a 29er yet, here's your chance to get on one. Act fast!
